Dishoom, London

Dishoom turned to Fileturn to create the all-important first restaurant in a planned chain – a contemporary ‘Bombay Cafe’ in London’s Covent Garden.

The fit-out, over two floors, took place within a wider development requiring careful co-ordination with the neighbouring sites.

The restaurant interior creates ambience from an eclectic mix of the modern and antique, featuring materials such as rhomboid ceramic floor tiles, solid oak wall panelling and roughcast plaster with painted brick slips. Furniture and fittings continue the theme, with Barcelona style banquette seating, light fittings draped on ropes and antique mirrors.

As always with busy central London locations, access to the site could be challenging. In addition, as the inaugural restaurant, design changes were made throughout the project as the concept matured into reality. The end result is a stylish, original and functional addition to the West End.
