The Waldorf Hilton, Adelphi Suite

Hilton Hotels Corporation embarked on a multi-million pound facelift of the famous Waldorf Hotel in the Aldwych.

The Waldorf has an illustrious history and rich heritage dating back to its opening in 1908. Set in the heart of London’s theatre land, close to Covent Garden, the hotel has attracted a string of stars from all over the world.

It was important for Hilton Hotels to work with a contractor with a track record for working sympathetically and conscientiously on iconic buildings, and who could work effectively within the confines of a fully operational, high profile hotel.

After building a successful client/supplier relationship at other Hilton sites, Fileturn were appointed to fully refurbish 98 bedrooms with state-of-the art facilities, overcoming extensive service infrastructure issues; the Adelphi ballroom and boardroom adjacent to the famous Palm Court; and the public areas and toilets.

The project drew on all of Fileturn’s skills and experience in conservation work to preserve the hotel’s original features while providing the best in modern facilities.

As always in a programme of this kind, we worked in close partnership with the hotel management to minimise disruption to staff and guests, working in 4 week phases erecting a 5 storey hoist and scaffolding to the rear of the building to move waste and materials in and out.
